Community Impact
At the Stony Plain Kinsmen, we believe in hands-on service and spreading kindness in tangible ways across our community. Over the years, we’ve undertaken many projects large and small - from building public infrastructure to supporting families in need.
Below are just a few examples of how we’ve made a difference:
-
Christmas Hampers Program
One of our annual cornerstones is the Christmas Hampers initiative. Working in partnership with the Parkland Food Bank, we support families in need by distributing food, gift cards, and children’s presents. In 2024, we assisted 759 families across Stony Plain and West Parkland, impacting over 2,000 residents.
-
Legacy Contributions
We committed $100,000 toward the Kinsmen Interpretive Centre at the Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum, and have been active in upgrading local public facilities - everything from chutes, corrals, and bleachers, to park and museum infrastructure.
-
National Day of KINdness
On Kin Kindness Day, the Stony Plain Kinsmen took part in 42 hours of community service as part of Kin Canada’s National Day of KINdness.
Highlights included:
-
Distributing roses to parents and mini-muffins to tots at a Parent–Tot Skate. Visiting Westview Health Centre’s cafeteria, where we paid for beverages and connected with staff, patients, and visitors (147 drinks covered).
-
Providing paid transportation and cookies for clients of Stony Plain’s Automated Transit System; giving gift cards to transit drivers and office staff.
-
Giving out $25 gift cards to local shoppers at Co-op, Freson Bros, and Red Apple; and $10 Tim’s gift cards to customers at three Tim Hortons sites.
-
Engaging local business partners to support the initiative, reinforcing how service and community spirit go hand in hand.
